Meet the Family Bunkie

0

Crusader Caravans has launched a new family van, the Bunkie.

The Bunkie weighs about 1980kg Tare, so it can be towed by a number of mid-range 4WDs.

The Crusader Bunkie combines a composite roof and floor with a Duratech 6in Australian steel box-section chassis with eye-to-eye tandem-axle suspension.

The fully insulated, one-piece, hail-resistant roof extends from the front checkerplate to the rear checkerplate. The one-piece composite floor, meanwhile, is 42mm thick and, according to Crusader, it offers “dense insulation properties against cold or heat creep from the ground, while the fibreglass skin under the floor acts as a barrier and offers protection from water and road debris”.

In terms of the structure of the Bunkie, its side walls sit on top of the floor, and the roof sits on top of the walls. Crusader has also fitted piano hinges to the cupboard doors, spaced the frame’s wall studs every 250mm, and screwed the furniture in from the outside. According to Crusader, a “higher grade electrical wiring over industry standard” has been fitted to the Bunkie.

Inside, the Bunkie has large windows, plenty of LED downlights, and a gloss finish on the ceiling and cupboards.

A queen-size bed for the adults comes standard but customers can opt for singles instead. Three bunks are standard, too, each fitted with an innerspring mattress, a reading light, 12V power and a window. Including the lounge, the Bunkie can sleep six people.

In the kitchen, you’ll find rolled benchtops, a four-burner cooktop, a microwave, a two-door fridge, and of course hot and cold running water from the two 95L onboard water tanks.

The bathroom offers a full-height fibreglass shower, a toilet, a vanity, top-loading washing machine and a wind-up vent with exhaust fan.

Finally, the Bunkie can be turned into a “multi terrain” caravan by the fitment of Crusader’s X Country pack, which includes independent suspension, 16in tyres, a tool box and jerry can holders on an extended A frame, a DO35 coupling, a pressure hatch and more.
