The MDC Explorer FF Limited Edition marks the next chapter for one of the camper trailers that helped build the MDC brand.
Some models come and go. Others become part of a company’s story. For MDC, the Explorer camper trailer is one such model.
Introduced in 2009 and evolving into the Explorer forward-fold camper in 2013, the Explorer is entering a new chapter.
According to MDC, the Limited Edition nature of this camper trailer gives the Explorer platform a new identity while retaining the capability, practicality and value that made it successful.
The business began with tent and camper trailers, long before MDC expanded into hybrids, pop-tops, touring caravans, full offroad caravans and eventually into the United States.
The Explorer became one of the models that helped establish MDC. Its appeal was straightforward: offroad capability, usable living space, family practicality and a manageable towing footprint at a price that made getting out there achievable.
“The Explorer is part of where MDC came from. There are thousands of customers around Australia who started their camping journey with an Explorer, and plenty of families who have memories connected to one,” MDC founder and managing director Vaughan Hindley said.
“When we started MDC more than 20 years ago, tent and camper trailers were at the heart of what we did. Today, the business is much bigger, and our products have evolved enormously, but we have never forgotten the products and customers that helped us get here.
“The Explorer FF Limited Edition celebrates that history while making the product relevant and exciting again for the next generation of Australian campers.”
The Explorer uses MDC’s FEA-tested and engineer-certified trailing arm independent suspension, and 12in electric drum brakes as standard. Combined with its offroad construction and compact forward-fold platform, the Explorer FF Limited Edition is designed to take owners beyond sealed roads and established caravan parks.
With an approximate Tare of 1450kg and a 2000kg ATM, the Explorer Limited Edition FF is priced from $21,990. It sleeps up to five people and features a custom king-size bed, convertible lounge and full annexe. It has a slide-out stainless steel kitchen with a Dometic three-burner cooktop and sink. The fridge slide can accommodate fridges up to 95L in size.
A 200W portable solar panel is also included as standard, providing additional flexibility for customers wanting to spend more time away from powered sites.
According to MDC, the ‘Limited Edition’ treatment was intended to make the Explorer feel genuinely new without changing what works. The all-new Sandy Taupe exterior gives the camper a completely different presence, with a colour designed to sit naturally within the Australian landscape.
