In a recent issue, we covered my upgrade to a modern caravan TV antenna. This month, we took the next logical step, replacing the outdated TV/DVD combo in my five-year-old Silverline. While the old unit offered basic HD viewing, it lacked the picture quality and smarts for streaming services such as Netflix and YouTube, essential for today’s travellers.

Now, I should point out that the remote control that was dispatched with my TV to review was a prototype; however, I have seen images of the production remote and believe the layout appears to be just as logical and intuitive as the prototype I used.
Once connected to wi-fi, the real fun begins. Fire up your favourite show and you’ll immediately appreciate the availability of streaming apps, and the 4K resolution paired with Dolby Vision. The result: a vivid, immersive picture that makes you forget you’re in a caravan.
SURPRISINGLY SOLID SOUND
Caravan TVs are notorious for tinny audio, but Englaon bucks the trend with the optional Englaon 2.0CH Dolby Atmos Soundbar. It connects via HDMI eARC and is instantly recognised by the TV. The result is room-shaking surround sound that transforms movie night.
Bonus, the soundbar includes Bluetooth, so you can stream Spotify or play stored music directly from your phone. That’s a potential cost saver too – no need for separate internal and external speakers in your caravan build.
But my favourite feature is the ability to use the TV as a second hi-res computer monitor for those of us who work while caravanning around Australia. People working from the road, such as content creators, will find that having the Englaon as second quality monitor is a winning feature.
